Power System Analysis
Tony Demaria Electric has PE-licensed engineers who assist customers in the computer modeling of new and/or existing power systems. TDE uses nationally recognized technical software and standards for the modeling and analysis of power systems. Our engineering department performs studies from simple voltage-drop calculations to complicated transient studies for large machines.
System Planning & Design
If the power system is in the design phase, TDE’s engineering department can assist with design specifications, ensuring all equipment is designed per national standards and codes. Once the design has been finalized and approved, TDE can assist the customer with purchasing, installation, and commissioning of the equipment. TDE has in-depth experience with the design specification of large synchronous machines and protection relay upgrades.
Consulting
TDE’s engineering department has years of experience in many different fields and regularly provides valuable consulting services to a variety of clients. We answer technical questions, go to job sites to investigate any issues, and can work with other contractors to make sure a job gets done safely and correctly. TDE is connected to a network of trusted subject matter experts who can also provide assistance in solving any issue encountered by our customers.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE
- Responding to unplanned outages
- Providing 24/7 response to get equipment back online
- Troubleshooting and repair
- Conducting root cause analysis of electrical incidents
Field Services
- Short Circuit, Coordination, Arc Flash, Motor Starting, and System Stability Studies: Performed by senior electrical engineers with many years’ experience, which provides the best value.
- Commissioning: Electrical systems, switchgear, apparatus, etc.
- Complex Microprocessor Relays: Replace old obsolete mechanical relays with new type electronic relays, rewiring into the circuitry by working with the customers’ engineering staff. Then test the current transformer, relay, and circuit breaker to ensure the protection system is operational.
- Oil Transformers: Oil sampling and trending, replace faulty bushings or leaking bushings, perform diagnostic services such as Doble power factor testing, sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA), and partial discharge analysis.
- High-Voltage Switch Gear: High-voltage circuit breakers, high-voltage dielectric testing, Doble power factor testing, partial discharge analysis, circuit breaker time travel analysis, and circuit breaker vacuum bottle testing using magnetron atmospheric condition (MAC) testing.
- High-Voltage Cable: Terminations and splicing with nationally certified (NCSCB) technicians. Also, testing using AC 60 Hz dielectric, VLF, VLF-Tan Delta testing of high-voltage cables or partial discharge.
MARINE ELECTRICAL
POWER MONITORING
Our services also include:
- Recording for extended periods of time to perform power quality analysis of electrical power systems
- Finding the cause of many power system disturbances, such as harmonics, transients, and voltage sags and swells
- Using power monitoring to plan for future additions to the electrical system together with computer system studies

Power Monitoring & Quality Audits
TDE has qualified engineers and technicians capable of installing power monitors/meters on low-voltage to high-voltage power systems. The data recorded can help troubleshoot issues such as voltage, faults, harmonics, and transients. Power monitoring can also be used on power systems to monitor the system load and plan for future expansions.

SPECIALTY SERVICES
- Power Monitoring: This includes simple monitoring for load studies and advanced power conditioning monitoring for detecting defective power availability. Customers that require detailed analysis of voltage irregularities (unbalanced voltage, voltage spikes, fluctuation voltages, etc.) and amperage problems (current transients, current imbalance, current sag, etc.) will need advanced power monitoring equipment such as the Dranetz. This type of machine, along with an experienced electrical engineer, will reveal the most difficult to detect problems.
- Power Equipment Condition Assessments: The condition of the power distribution system is vital to the owner and the operator. Without an analysis of the condition of your electrical equipment, it is unsafe and unreliable to operate.
- Partial Discharge: This work includes data collection and analysis using Iris coupling capacitors.
- Synchronous Machines: This service provides complete testing of the main stator winding as well as the voltage drop on large rotating DC fields, diode ring, and sync-pack analysis. TDE is the only company in the Southern California area qualified and equipped to repair rotating equipment in place.

Training Substation:
TDE has built a substation for training with the real equipment found at the majority of our customer sites. This allows for true hands-on training experience by qualified personnel, without the safety hazard of dealing with high voltages.
The equipment has been mocked up to allow for greater safety, technical, and troubleshooting training not available anywhere else, other than working out in the field with a qualified person. TDE safety and technical training is given by qualified and experienced field personnel and training instructors who understand the importance of hands-on training and transferring knowledge.
